Why won’t the site Load up all the images / site in my browser?

This Site has been extensively tested in all major browsers. The site is viewable via these other browsers; Microsoft® Internet Explorer© 6 and 7, Mozilla©, Netscape© Firefox©, Opera© or Apples Safari©.

We test them in the latest versions of the browsers as well as where possible the earlier iterations.   If you are not using the latest version of your browser please upgrade it.

Whilst this seems like a bit of a cop out in terms of making the site viewable, you should endeavour to upgrade your browser whenever they release a newer version for personal security reasons.  Older browsers tend to be less secure and could infect your machine with viruses (malicious code which can break or damage yours and an other internet connected machines), Spyware (software which monitors your browsing habits and reports the information back to 3rd parties you have not given your implicit consent to receive this information) and Trojans (programs which are downloaded and then can be connected to later in order to misuse the resources of your computer, inflict damage, steal information or similar).

Even if you are running in an Apple Mac or Linux environment you can still pass on the malicious software and code you have downloaded to others even if you are not personally affected.

All browsers download copies of the site images to your local machine regardless of the type of operating system.  The purpose of this is to speed up browsing times by reusing the data you have downloaded locally.  It is much quicker to access the file from your local machine than it is to re-download it from the website again.  Some times these downloaded items, known as Cached (pronounced Cashed not Cah Che'd) items  downloads can time out or be overwritten in this case the browser may attempt to get them from the original source or if the page has finished loading it will not render them to the page, meaning they disappear or don't show up.

In these circumstances you need to clear your Cache and then refresh or reload the page.

Instructions on how to clear your Cache can be found via Google for the best results please type in the search term Clear cookies in ***, Where *** is the name of your browser.

Why can I Log in but have not got full access To the Members area area of the site?

This area is password protected and is only available to members of the club, their friends and family, and authorised users. As the site is primarily for the club members the general public are not allow into these areas.  We do allow members of the public who have registered on site to have access to the majority of the information on the site, there are some additional features which Members have access to which a Standard user will not have as part of their membership of the club.  We do not grant access to this area of the site to non-club members and any such requests made to the site will be ignored and left un-responded.  If these requests persist then we will be forced to take further action against those offenders.

It should be noted it is a criminal offence under the Misuse of Computers Act to attempt to gain access to password protected areas of the site or indeed any part of the site which you are not authorised for.  We will take the strongest possible action against anyone attempting to gain access in an illegal manner.

If you feel you should have access and don’t, please contact us for further information.

How do I become a Member in order to get access to the Members Area?

The club itself has a limited membership it is hoped that everyone whom is either invited into the member’s site is either a member, family of a member or indeed a friend or authorised person. Again if you feel you should have access but don’t please contact us.

Membership of the site isn't a precursor to membership of the club.   As with any club you need to have been proposed and seconded by current members.

Adding Photos to your My Photos Section of your profile?

You can add your own Photographs to your own folder in the Members Gallery which will show on your My Photos tab in your profile.

You can add your own folders or collections of images inside of your folder and make them private or viewable to all.

Member galleries are only visible when a user has logged into the site, and cannot be viewed publicly without being logged in.

To upload Photos to the site please first ensure you are logged in.

Make sure your Photos are resized to 1024 by 768 pixels wide, as this makes them quicker to upload and also for other people to view.

Files should remain under a maximum of 8MB and no more than 20MB may be uploaded at any one time. Please view these files sizes as the absolute limit and attempt to keep them under this size.

To resize images you can download free software from a number of sources in order to resize your Photos. Some of the easiest programs to use are Photoshop Express, Picasa and Irfan Viewer.

These programs none destructively alter your Photographs. With many Photo editing programs, including 'Microsoft Windows Picture Viewer', when you alter them from rotating, cropping or resizing this action destroys the original image and makes a new copy with the alterations on it.

This causes two problems:

  • They are much worse quality images than the original.  Which might be OK for web viewing but is no good if you want to print them out afterwards.
  • And you lose all the information stored within the original image, called EXIF data which is the digital version of TIFF data for traditional publishing mediums. This data contains among other things the time and date and also the settings used to take the Photo.

Our Photo Section supports the display of this data; however it is not essential to maintain it in order to upload your Photos to the site.

Batch uploading and using external programs to upload

You can also use a third party component to do it or if you have a windows machine then it become easier there are registry downloads which allow the user to upload Photos via their windows explorer so they can go to their My Pictures folder, highlight the Pictures you want to publish and then the wizard will take you through the uploading images process.

Windows users can also use Picasa2 free from Google.   So pretty much we have all the bases covered.

All platforms however can use Gallery Remote.

The Gallery Remote software can be downloaded | Windows Version.

Gallery Remote | Other Platforms inc Mac.

Once installed you need to click on add gallery URL and put in the following details:

  • Alias : Benjy’s Photos
  • Username: Your Username
  • Password: Your Password
  • Gallery type: Standalone
  • Gallery URL: http://www.benjafieldsracingclub.co.uk/cms/gallery2/

This will allow you to upload to your Photos directly into your folder in the members section straight away.

Windows Only | Registry Addition

The second way is to download the registry change file which will allow you to upload directly from windows.  Download to your desktop the file which is for your version of Windows and Right Click 'Save As'.  Once downloaded double click on the file and it will ask you if you want to add this information to your registry.  Click ok and it will link your machine to the Gallery so you can upload from your machine directly via the publish these on the web option.

For XP | download
For Vista | download

This allows you to upload directly from your My Pictures folder.

  • Download to your desktop the file which is for your version of Windows and Right Click 'Save As'.
  • Once downloaded double click on the file and it will ask you if you want to add this information to your registry.
  • Click ok and it will link your machine to the Gallery so you can upload from your machine directly via the publish these on the web option.

In order that you don’t slow down your internet connection we'd advise resizing images to 1024 by 768 px which will be big enough to still view detail but small enough to not tax your internet connection.

  • Marked B on the image:  The Smilies.  These are known as emoticons.  Back in the dark days of the internet it was fine to discuss things on black screens with green writing and people used words to express their feelings and to emote about a subject.  However, as textural communication can sometimes be misunderstood these early adopters invented a Cipher to express their intent behind their words.  :-) was a Smiling face which became :) and finally Big Grin - Smilie Emoticon giving us the smiley  and so on.  The Smilies were an extension of that Cipher.
  • Marked C on the image:  The Save Button.  This allows you to save a copy of what you are posting to your own User Control Panel which allows you to comeback and edit it later if you have not finished your response or posted your thread.
