My Photo Help

Adding Photos to your My Photos Section of your profile?

You can add your own Photographs to your own folder in the Members Gallery which will show on your My Photos tab in your profile.

You can add your own folders or collections of images inside of your folder and make them private or viewable to all.

Member galleries are only visible when a user has logged into the site, and cannot be viewed publicly without being logged in.

To upload Photos to the site please first ensure you are logged in.

Make sure your Photos are resized to 1024 by 768 pixels wide, as this makes them quicker to upload and also for other people to view.

Files should remain under a maximum of 8MB and no more than 20MB may be uploaded at any one time. Please view these files sizes as the absolute limit and attempt to keep them under this size.

To resize images you can download free software from a number of sources in order to resize your Photos. Some of the easiest programs to use are Photoshop Express, Picasa and Irfan Viewer.

These programs none destructively alter your Photographs. With many Photo editing programs, including 'Microsoft Windows Picture Viewer', when you alter them from rotating, cropping or resizing this action destroys the original image and makes a new copy with the alterations on it.

This causes two problems:

  • They are much worse quality images than the original.  Which might be OK for web viewing but is no good if you want to print them out afterwards.
  • And you lose all the information stored within the original image, called EXIF data which is the digital version of TIFF data for traditional publishing mediums. This data contains among other things the time and date and also the settings used to take the Photo.

Our Photo Section supports the display of this data; however it is not essential to maintain it in order to upload your Photos to the site.

TheDrop Down boxes allow you to to other things with your Album. These drop down boxes are on every page of your Album

They allow you to do the following:

  • Add Album = Add a new sub-album to your Album. This is good for specific collections or event photos to stop them all being lumped into one big Album as well as for general organisation of your Photos into sets.
  • Add Album/Item to Cart = Currently not in use.
  • Add Comment = Leave a comment on your or any other users Album.
  • Bulk Manage = Bulk re scans items, relearning the attributes of items that have been externally modified.
  • Delete Album = Deletes the Album if you use this on your main Album then it will be permanently removed along with all it's content and we are not able under any circumstances to recover it. Please consider whether Deleting the Album is what you wish to do before using this option. If this is not your main Album then it will only delete the sub album you have created although again all Items inside will be lost.
  • Edit Album = This allows you to edited the properties of your Album
  • Edit Captions = This allows you to Edit the Description, Title, Keywords and Folder name of your Album. NB: IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED YOU DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF YOUR TOP LEVEL FOLDER. This will delete all your existing photographs and is unrecoverable.
  • Edit Permissions = This allows you to change who see the Albums and what rights they have to see your photos. This is where you can also set up private folders where images can be viewed by link only but cannot be seen. NB: we do periodically scan private folders to ensure no harmful or illegal content is contained within them by using the hidden function you give benjafieldsracingclub.co.uk full permission to view at all times your hidden folders in line with our Privacy Policy. The strongest possible action will be taken against any user who uploads to maintains questionable/illegal content in their gallery

Batch uploading and using external programs to upload

You can also use a third party component to do it or if you have a windows machine then it become easier there are registry downloads which allow the user to upload Photos via their windows explorer so they can go to their My Pictures folder, highlight the Pictures you want to publish and then the wizard will take you through the uploading images process.

Windows users can also use Picasa2 free from Google.   So pretty much we have all the bases covered.

All platforms however can use Gallery Remote.

The Gallery Remote software can be downloaded | Windows Version.

Gallery Remote | Other Platforms inc Mac.

Once installed you need to click on add gallery URL and put in the following details:

  • Alias : Benjy’s Photos
  • Username: Your Username
  • Password: Your Password
  • Gallery type: Standalone
  • Gallery URL: http://www.benjafieldsracingclub.co.uk/cms/gallery2/

This will allow you to upload to your Photos directly into your folder in the members section straight away.

Windows Only | Registry Addition

The second way is to download the registry change file which will allow you to upload directly from windows.  Download to your desktop the file which is for your version of Windows and Right Click 'Save As'.  Once downloaded double click on the file and it will ask you if you want to add this information to your registry.  Click ok and it will link your machine to the Gallery so you can upload from your machine directly via the publish these on the web option.

For XP | download
For Vista | download

This allows you to upload directly from your My Pictures folder.

  • Download to your desktop the file which is for your version of Windows and Right Click 'Save As'.
  • Once downloaded double click on the file and it will ask you if you want to add this information to your registry.
  • Click ok and it will link your machine to the Gallery so you can upload from your machine directly via the publish these on the web option.

In order that you don’t slow down your internet connection we'd advise resizing images to 1024 by 768 px which will be big enough to still view detail but small enough to not tax your internet connection.
